Proverbs And Ecclesiastes: Wisdom For Everyday Life
Paul McGhie
What does a 31-chapter collection of ancient life tips have to do with us? The book of Proverbs is a character study of wisdom and what can happen when you ‘marry’ it into your life.
Why do smart people become foolish? Just like wisdom, foolishness is accessible to everyone everywhere, and it would be wise to understand what it takes to fall into it.
What does success look like for you? We spend most of our lives at work, and most of our decisions involve money in some way. The writers of Proverbs have a lot to say about how to make better decisions in both.
Which relationships make you happy? In our friends and family, we find our identity, purpose and legacy as long as we’re prepared to invest in them with wisdom.
How do you find meaning in a world that will go on without you? The book of Ecclesiastes seeks wisdom with honesty, vulnerability, and by asking all the hard questions.
What does a good life look like? Like many ancient writers, Qohelet wondered what it meant to live well and went through a lot of ways to live badly before finding an answer.
Can anything last forever? The passing of time seemed to make everything meaningless in the end, but Qohelet was determined to make a permanent mark.
What does all of this mean to us as Christians? The authors of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes sought wisdom and discovered more questions than answers, but their story wasn’t finished. When life doesn’t make sense, there is a way forward through the mystery.
