Description

Welcome to Paul’s masterclass: Wisdom for Everyday Life. These nine sessions will explore the practical lessons we can learn from Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, two Old Testament books that speak directly into our everyday decisions and search for meaning. Topics like family, money, friendship, career, death and legacy are all explored in the scriptures and examined for discussion within this course. The ancient world was obsessed with wisdom; who held it, how to find it and what it looked like to apply, and their reflections on the subject are just as relevant now as they were three millennia ago. Our prayer is that as you work through them, you will grow deeper in your understanding of God, His Word, and how to apply it to your everyday walk with Christ.

Overview

  • 2

    The Woman of Wisdom

    • What does a 31-chapter collection of ancient life tips have to do with us? The book of Proverbs is a character study of wisdom and what can happen when you ‘marry’ it into your life.

  • 3

    How to be a Fool

    • Why do smart people become foolish? Just like wisdom, foolishness is accessible to everyone everywhere, and it would be wise to understand what it takes to fall into it.

  • 4

    Proverbs on Money & Work

    • What does success look like for you? We spend most of our lives at work, and most of our decisions involve money in some way. The writers of Proverbs have a lot to say about how to make better decisions in both.

  • 5

    Proverbs on Friendship & Family

    • Which relationships make you happy? In our friends and family, we find our identity, purpose and legacy as long as we’re prepared to invest in them with wisdom.

  • 6

    The Wisdom of Hevel

    • How do you find meaning in a world that will go on without you? The book of Ecclesiastes seeks wisdom with honesty, vulnerability, and by asking all the hard questions.

  • 7

    Fulfilment in Ecclesiastes

    • What does a good life look like? Like many ancient writers, Qohelet wondered what it meant to live well and went through a lot of ways to live badly before finding an answer.

  • 8

    Legacy in Ecclesiastes

    • Can anything last forever? The passing of time seemed to make everything meaningless in the end, but Qohelet was determined to make a permanent mark.

  • 9

    Hope in Ecclesiastes

    • What does all of this mean to us as Christians? The authors of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes sought wisdom and discovered more questions than answers, but their story wasn’t finished. When life doesn’t make sense, there is a way forward through the mystery.
